As the Church of Scientology becomes more and more known, either through media reports or actors joining, I am receiving numerous calls from employees in the workplace being forced to listen to, or read, Scientology related propaganda in the workplace.

In the United States, you are free to practice whatever religion you want; but, when you start forcing your religion on your employees, laws are violated very quickly.

Today, I met with a client who was forced to sit through Scientology classes in her workplace for 2.5 hours per week.  When she refused, she was treated poorly by her supervisors, written up, and ultimately fired.  The client is Catholic.

The laws against religious discrimination prohibit an employer for taking “adverse action” (discipline, pay cut, demotion, termination, etc.) against an employee for refusing to participate in religious proceedings or education in the workplace.  Needless to say, this employee will be pursuing a claim for religious discrimination, and I intend to see this employer answer to a jury in my sacred place – – the Courtroom.

If you, or anybody you know is experiencing religious or any other type of discrimination or harassment in the workplace, contact us at [email protected], or 866-344-9243.
